- Matt your comment about free divers reminded me of an article I read the other day about Herbert Nitsche http://www.herbertnitsch.com/ who is by far and away the best free diver in the world. THose guys are amazing or at least what they do is amazing. Check out the world record video on his site. Really amusing when he surfaces after nearly five minutes there is a massive pause from the assembled crowd whilst they wait to see he is ok

- The sea was so clear that you could see the mask from the surface! Never seen water like that.

- Yoda - he loves it. Pretty cheap looking but lots of bright colours. Thought I'd done permanent damage for a while but it was fine while surfing. How the Hell do proper free divers do it?! Previous personal record was about 3m and even that hurt.

- matt - great trip. Bizarrely I am sat here with a beer and pizza having left 'the family' at the hospital for the night.
Yoda - the gravity of the situation hasn't really sunk in yet, just glad its over really..
matt - gonna surf in the morning, meeting a mate above Great Western at 8am (bonus that hospital visiting hours aren't until 10..)

- Yep, massive congrats to Ben and his missus.
11am this morning - swimming in 28 degree crystal clear Med water. 7pm - surfing head high barrels... not a bad day.
Injuries on holiday were three urchin spines in my heel and total agony in both ears after diving to 9 metres to get a brightly coloured diving mask for Stanley that was lying on the sea bed. My ears actually felt like they burst under the pressure. Oops! Otherwise had a fantastic time boating, sunning and eating.

- RIP Cyril. I remember as a youth he was a frequent face on the telly. Unmistakable in his massive fat bastardness. They'll need a grand piano case to bury him in unless he's shed the weight.

- But is it a niche market Max? I would say its a pretty bloody big market really due to the geograhicl coverage. And the beauty of it is that it includes all the golden oldies spending their life's savings on doing the travel thing in motor homes.
I think you're on to a good thing there me old mucker.

- Cyril Smith has passed away, one of a generation of unforgettable politicians who had opinions and real personality, unlike those of today. They'll need to dig a bloody big hole for him.
ben: We thought of various 'Aire' puns, and that seemed to sum it up best, plus 'Airetoday.co.uk' rhymes and sounds like an advertising jingle, so it becomes memorable. Pity it's such a niche market really. I'm hoping to use the info and pics I've gathered as the basis for written articles in motorhome and (possibly) surfing mags, so it's a bit of a multimedia effort.
If young Clem was born today he shares a birthday with my missus, the Great Fire of London, and the outbreak of WWII.

- Yeah Clem has a nice ring to it. Has the magnitude of being a father come upon you yet. When my eldest was born I just felt this massive rush of responsibility. I've read since that fathers actually undergo hormonal changes as well as the women upon child birth to make them more responsible, less flitty. Clearly those hormones don't work on everyone.
No Spawny, Ben won't be going tomorrow, or the day after, or the day after, or the day after, or the day after, repeat ad infinitum!

- yoda - well he'll be Clem normally, not sure where it came from. My sister recently got a kitten and called it Clement, Clement Freud.. umm.. they're the only ones I know. My wife liked Clem as a name and I was happy with that
Airetoday - very drool.. very apt especially as in a camping aire you generally are 'off again and gone tomorrow' as Yode says

- ben: Hey well done to all three of you, Family Guy now eh? Excellent.
On the webpage design front, thanks chaps.
JM: I've got my eye on that film, and 'Kick Ass' too, once I've seen Toy Story 3. The header image width is already down to 320 pixels - what's the default screen width on an htc desire? I know they're a popular model. It's the old design problem of not being able to please everyone all of the time. If I make the image too small Marcuse and the iCrowd will need magnifying glasses.
Spawny: Thanks again. The horizontal line thing is just a quirk of the html - they're the most flexible option to use, but I can see what you mean in a minimised browser. Hey ho - I think I'll keep images to the bare minimum on the mobile version.

- Afternoon all... still looking in here every few days..
Max: I saw a film at the cinema the other day which would be right up your street: Scott Pilgrim vs the world... It's certainly isn't the best film ever made (infact the story was a bit weak, and certainly aimed at the yoof), but I thought it would appeal to you because of it's cross genre mix of comic book and indie flick - definately one for the cinema. Also jammed full of pop culture computer references... As I say it's a bit geeky, infact the row of strange looking misfits infront of me looked like a IT department day out..

- Looking good max
All header links in a single row
title on one line with mobile in red font on row below
Only cosemtic point would be that the paragraph bars are a fixed width but the picture spreads past them right up to the edge of the screen. Might look a little neater if the image was the same width?

- Excellent feedback so far chaps - many thanks. The Contact link on the top bar should work now, and the contact e-mail address should be visible as a .gif graphic. I hasten to add that I won't be banging on like this for days on end, I'm just trying to get it started ;-)
Marcuse: Ta - good to know it can cope with the iGizmo. Looks like your screen width is around 640-720. The images will be largely cosmetic on the mobile version, but with links to scrollable bigger ones in Panoramio or elsewhere if people want them.
Mambo: Very similar principles - I have to keep the pages as straightforward in layout as possible so they can expand or contract widthways for comfort. No fancy stuff like tables, just old school paragraphed text. Oddly enough, the SSB's retro page design is very mobile phone friendly.
Spawny: Most useful - best guess is your screen is 320 wide so I've shortened the graphic and made the link bar tighter. I suspect the title problem was down to my use of spaced capitals - hopefully that's gone now, but please let me know if it hasn't.

- Max, I tried in on a blackberry curve
I get two lines on the top with the links looking like this
Mobile | Aire Guide | SatNav | Shop |
About | Contact
and the AIRETODAY.CO.UK but with the K on a new line
Might be the way the browswe as the image is full width resulting in a small scroll bar but it's a bit odd as you expect the k to be on the same line
If i click the zoom to make the page full widtrh with no scroll bar at the bottom then the k is still on a new line even though the iamge goes the full width.
Perhaps you could reduce the font size of the title a fraction?
Hope that makes sense

- Could I ask a favour of any of you with those new-fangled mobile phone doohickeys with web-browsing capability? I'm trying to develop a mobile-friendly version of a website, and the test page is at the address below. My youngest has just tried it on her Blackberry and it seems OK, but I'd be interested in how other models pick it up. Ideally, in the default view the top link bar and image (360 pixels wide) should fit across the screen width without much/any scrolling. You should see two paragraphs of sample text that should fit to whatever your default screen width is, and it should be readable without zooming in too much. Any feedback welcome - thanks.
...and the spelling of the URL below (e after the r) is correct.

- I agree that the press need to move on - we have had enough of this fixation with private lives. Throughout history virtually all eminent individuals have also had 'interesting' private lives. The difference is they didn't all have them exposed in the media. We lose a lot of extremely talented politicians and industrial leaders when we could do with their savvy to keep the country ticking along.
By the way, I shall be sharing a twin room this weekend with a good friend of mine and I would like to state that this in no way implies that I have started to bat from the pavilion end...

- I don't have much time for Hague either, but who honestly cares where his Tory todger goes? I don't approve of anyone cheating on their missus but if that's what's actually happened it's his business. The newspaper frenzy has an unsavoury air of the playground mob about it, ie "fnarr fnarr he's gay", "Oh no I'm not", "Oh yes you are" etc etc.
It's time some editors moved out of the 1950s and caught up with the rest of us.
